I reviewed the race highlights, when Piastri boxed, the gap was 2.7 seconds. My point with respect to the 2.7 s gap is that although Max did run slightly faster (he did pull a 2.7 s gap), the delta would never have been enough to overtake Piastri, if Piastri had ended up in P1 after the first corner. As you pointed out, Piastri might actually have been faster in stint 1, if he had clean air. So Max definitely would not be too overtake Piastri. To sum up, if Max had backed out of T1, or given the position back, he wouldn't have been able to overtake Piastri on track. His only chance would have been to stay within 1.5 seconds, and then hope to undercut Piastri.20-04-2025 23:16

You just not realize who finished in a lowly P7.20-04-2025 23:07

It didn't cost Max. At that point, it was always going to be P2. Which is a whole lot better than P7.20-04-2025 23:05

Suzuka is high downforce, as well as flowing corners. Jeddah is a fairly tight street circuit. So the RB seems to be competitive on these 2. Circuits with slow, sharp turns may be a problem, although we don't know yet. The other factor is that tire deg was very low in Jeddah (as it was in Suzuka), which has been a big McLaren advantage. On high tire deg circuits and hot temps, McLaren just might destroy everyone.20-04-2025 23:00

Lewis didn't make a difference, Max never had a big enough Delta to overtake Piastri. Lewis was irrelevant.20-04-2025 22:51

The counter argument to this is of course, what if Max hadn't gone wide and off track? What if Max had only 2 wheels off track, and the other 2 wheels on track. With the shallow angle that Piastri went into the turn, there is no way Piastri could have then not run into Max. Going into the corner, Max was at most 2 feet behind. At the apex, Max was even less than that behind. Would Max be at fault if he had held line = stayed on track? IMO not. Problem was, Max didn't want a collision.20-04-2025 22:50

Max is mightier than ever as a driver, winning the WDC in 2024 in an inferior car. And being in the thick of things in 2025 in a much inferior car. Meanwhile Lewis is getting b-slapped around by Leclerc in the same car. Your decision cognitive ability needs some work.20-04-2025 22:41

Lewis got lucky with the unusually hot temps and high tire temps in 1 sprint qualy and race. Other than that, LeClerc has destroyed Lewis, to the point where even Lewis has repeatedly admitted that he just hasn't been good enough. Any reasonable person could see that, but then there is you...20-04-2025 22:28

I disagree. in the first stint, Max couldn't pull a 5 second gap on Oscar, even though he tried as it obviously would have benefitted Max greatly. The biggest gap was around 2.7 seconds. Max was only a little bit faster than Oscar in the first stint. If Oscar was in P1 after the first corner, that advantage would not nearly be big enough for Max to overtake Piastri.20-04-2025 22:24
